[Fracture and dislocation of the atlanto-axial joint after mild trauma in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis].

چکیده
The importance of the present article lies in the fact that it deals with an infrequent complication in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, because most of the fractures that occur on the odontoid process are non-traumatic in origin. Dislocations of the atlantoaxial joint have an incidence that goes from 19% to 70%, according to the studies consulted. Normally, the space between the odontoid process, in its anterior border, and the posterior border of the anterior arch of the atlas is 2.5 mm, and remains constant in flexion and extension. When the transverse ligament is lax, this space increases in size. In rheumatoid arthritis, the anterior part of the odontoid process can be eroded in 14%–35% of cases and is usually related to dislocation.

Congenital atlanto-axial dislocation.
Atlanto-axial dislocation IS an uncommon condition. It is usually secondary to trauma, infection (tuberculous and non-tuberculous atlas and axis) and rheumatoid arthritis. Other uncommon causes reported include retropharyngeal abscess, malignant deposits, ankylosing spondylitis (Sorin, et al, 1979). Congenital atlanto-axial dislocation is rare. Wadia (1967) first drew attention to its relative ...

This is a case report of an extremely rare condition of atlanto-axial subluxation secondary to gouty arthritis, which mimicked rheumatoid arthritis at presentation. Gouty arthritis involving the spine is a rare condition. We highlight a case of gouty arthritis involving the atlanto-axial joint resulting in joint instability, subluxation, and neurological deficit. A 66-year-old obese woman who h...

Simultaneous mid third clavicle fracture and acromioclavicular joint dislocation is a rare combination injury, as a result of high-energy trauma. We report a patient with a middle third clavicle fracture and ipsilateral grade three-acromioclavicular joint dislocation, which is a rare combination. The patient wanted to get back to work as soon as possible, so the fracture was fixed with recons...

Cervical joint disease in rheumatoid arthritis patients is common. These patients may be at risk for severe life-threatening neurological problems in the perioperative period and thus present a challenge to the anaesthetist. By understanding the various anatomical abnormalities that may occur in rheumatoid cervical joint disease, the anaesthetist can design an appropriate management plan for th...

Fatal atlanto-axial dislocation occurred in two patients with rheumatoid arthritis and in both there were severe degenerative changes in the spinal ligaments and skeletal muscle in this area. Attention is called to the frequency of spontaneous cervical dislocations in rheumatoid patients and the advisability of obtaining routine radiographic examination of the cervical spine in patients with ad...
